Saturday, August 13th:

What comes to mind when you think of New York summer? Beer….warm pretzels…a nice pecan pie…and a little too much of all of that? What if you find just that in the number one summer treat ever invented, ice cream?! Steve’s Craft Ice Cream is bringing their three new beer inspired flavors to 61 Local for a taste test extravaganza! Booze, floats, coffee, frozen delight and (wait for it…) raffles? Yup, it’s all happening in the heart of Brooklyn. Check out the description here and head on over for your ice cream on tap!

Sunday, August 14th:

Sunday’s are for lounging around and curing that hangover. In honor of SK’s recent move to Brooklyn, we’re continuing the Brooklyn weekend fun at Prospect Park. Unlike the tourist crowds and haggling vendors of Central Park, Prospect Park offers a sweet, relaxing and neighborhoody alternative. Don’t be fooled by the barbecues and volleyball players, Propect Park is massive and has plenty of room for anything you’d want to do from running to napping, tossing the ball around or taking in the natural surroundings. Dogs are everywhere and check out the cute Dog Beach for some splish and splash fun! Visit the cafe and be sure to take a look at the beautiful old photos of how Prospect Park once looked. If you’ve still got leg power left go to the Botanical Gardens for a deep breath of anti-city life.

*Special Edition*, Wednesday, August 17th:
Friend and fellow-dating avenger eFlirtExpert has partnered with Pure Yoga to present Match.Om in New York City. This three-in-one yoga class isn’t just for those wanting to get a little zen mid-week, it’s a single bar of yogis, great bodies and great minds! Stop wasting your weekends in bars and clubs, meet someone awesome in downward dog…no, not like that! Visit their site to find more information and locations PLUS check out eFlirtExpert regularly for flirting tricks, trips and tribulations of the trade!

…and always remember, it’s not what you do (this weekend), it’s how you do it! Keep it classy!

It’s not too late to check out the 4th Annual Latin Choreographers Festival! Performances take place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center and there’s still time to catch the last show of these talented choreographers, dancers and artists! Check out their website to find out more and get your tickets right now!…RIGHT NOW!

Imagine old school bookcases, a sexy martini paired with some odds and ends chairs and end tables from a yard sale, some candles and the smell of cinnamon and spice and you’ve got Freemans in the East Village! Recently visited and rated by SK herself, the hidden NY gem is a great Saturday night dinner spot. Prices are New York style but the foods worth it! It tends to be packed but the upstairs lounge serves the full menu so ditch the 45 minute wait and head up to the second floor. If you’re up for some special drinks be sure to visit Frank at the bar! He’s not only a great bartender but will make your night!

Sunday, August 7th:

You’ve seen the ads in the subway, well it’s time! The Runyon 5K walk/run at Yankee Stadium! This relay for the fight against cancer is one of the most unique fundraising events of it’s kind, the course is Yankee Stadium’s stairs, ramps, halls and fields and the cause is cancer research! Even though registration is now closed, if you’re not doing anything head on up there and support the great runners! See what all the hype is about so you can be prepared for next years registration!

If you’ve never been to Mercury Bar in Hell’s Kitchen we’ve got to talk…but before I rail you with a lecture, take this opportunity to get some drinks for a cause! Starting at 3pm Mercury Bar, partneered with UHP, will host Urban Barcade! An afternoon your favorite games like Jenga, Uno and Connect Four! Saturday, July 23rd:

Beat the crazy heat wave! That’s right, show those temperatures what we’re made of by hitting this awesome rooftop beer garden! Maritime Hotel is opening up their rooftop bar this Saturday and every Saturday this summer for some great beer, sweet eats, cool music and hopefully, a nice breeze. Doors open 1pm-9pm with open bar from 3pm-4pm, no cover but make sure you’ve got ID. For more info visit their ad on joonbug or click here

Sunday, July 24th:

Speaking of heat waves…heat and waves…what a better time than now to hit the beach and soak in that sun while keeping cool in the Atlantic! While New York has many beaches to offer, an SK personal fav. is Long Beach – away from the commotion, away from the reminders of Manhattan! LIRR runs a special deal where you can get your ticket and beach pass together for only $21! All you need to do it buy the sandwiches and the sunblock! The MTA, Long Island Railroad site can explain more about their beach getaways. Take caution, tickets are unlimited for train rides but SPACE IS NOT, no one wants to be standing for the 50min ride it takes to get from Penn Station to Long Beach, be sure to plan ahead, arrive early and brace yourselves for the race to the seats!

There, you’ll find more than A DOZEN food trucks filled with lots of different goodies. They’re there every third Sunday of the month until October. Yum!!! Prospectpark.org has more information.

If you’d rather a little more service, sans-wheels, visit one of SK’s favorite Manhattan gems! Hi-Life Bar and Grill on the Upper West Side is a Wizard of Oz adventure for your tummy! They have special specials everyday of the week and some are a little less common than others. They serve everything from sushi to steak, nachos to pasta and burgers to pancakes! Make sure to get one of their unusual drinks and fear not, the “unique” water bottles are just water!
